  • Chilies are a bit slow to germinate, so it might take a while, up to 2 weeks. You can speed up the process by raising the temperature to 26℃ / 79℉. Decrease the number of chilli plants to one per refill to ensure enough space for the plant to grow. Do not not cut or prune your Chilli plant. It will form flowers to the tip of the plant.
  • This variety of chilly is mainly grown in the regions of Punjab and South Kashmir. They are widely used in Indian households while cooking as spices to enhance colour and piquancy to the dishes in recipes of stuffed chilly and in preparation of dips and sauces. The yellow chilly powder is extensively used in vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. It is also used in making pickles, soups, sauces and stews. Chillies, either fresh or ground, can cause severe burning sensation to hands and severe irritation to nasal passages, eyes, and throat. Therefore, it may be advised in some sensitive individuals to use thin hand gloves while handling chillies.
  • Once your Chilli is flowering, the blossoms need to be pollinated. To help blossoms pollinate, gently shake your plant or use a clean paint brush to move pollen from one blossom to the next.
  • Chillies need some time to ripen, up to 90 to 120 days from planting the pods. Caring for the plant during this time consists of cleaning the plant from wilted leaves and dead flowers. Yellow chilli pepper ripens from green colour to yellow (orange), but is edible and already has heat while it’s green.
  • Once the fruits have ripened, the plant will slowly start to degrade. The chilli pod has fulfilled its purpose to produce little chillies.
  • If you feel a true affection to your Chilli plant after harvesting its fruits, feel free to prune it and repot your plant to a bigger pot with some fresh soil and create your very own chilli bonsai – why not to start a new hobby.
